Genesis Fellowship Groups (GFG)
At present we have 2 GFG Groups that meet. The Art Williams
home the first Thursday of the month at 9:30am is where the first
group meets. An afternoon group meets in various homes the second
Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30pm. The encouragement is for everyone
to join a GFG meeting closest to their home, and most harmonious to
their time schedule. Each group chooses their individual study material,
meeting times, and format. Please consider joining this learning experience.
We pray new groups will be added in the near future.
Choir
We have an excellent choir, which over the years is comprised
of approximately 10% of the congregation's membership. Our Music
Director, Mrs. Karen Hobbs, is an accomplished musician as well as
"director"...and provides the congregation with a music program which
adds significantly to our ministry...especially to include the Festive
Seasons of the Year (Easter and Christmas.)
Men's Bible Breakfast (M&M)
Currently inactive.
This Group meets at 8:00 the 2d and 4th Tuesday morning each month.
The men "cook and serve" the breakfast, having agreed in pairs, to serve
those attending. (This gets "interesting" at times..but always delicious!)
Bibles are opened, read, and discussed in an informal, non-judgmental way
to the edification and strengthening of all. The session closes with
intercessory prayer for all needs identified.
Ladies Bible Study Group(s) (WINGS)
WINGS stands for Women in God's Service.
We have combined our Ladies Bible Study Groups and now meet as
one Group at 1:00pm twice a month, the first and third Tuesdays.
Our Group uses prepared lesson plans obtained from a variety of sources,
on topics of special interest to the ladies. Prayer concerns are an
important part of our meetings.
Youth Programs
These are in the "beginning" stages, with our adults conducting a concerted
effort to develop and expand this ministry. Current programs involve our
Youth in their specially adapted Sunday Morning Bible Class as well as
"outings" when they can be scheduled.
Confirmation
Confirmation cirriculum is taught on an as needed basis, to coincide
with the schedules and distances required for travel of those who
partcipate. At-home study is provided (with monthly supervision/consultation
with the Pastor) as is a program that utilizes time during the Sunday morning
Sunday School program. Families with children needing to complete their
Confirmation education are encourged to contact the Pastor in order to
develop a plan that will meet their needs in responding to this important part
of our Christian education.
Vacation Bible School
As is traditional in the Lutheran Church, we conduct an annual VBS, usually
in the month of June, in the evenings, and designed for the entire family to
attend. They have been well-received over the years, with attendance and
participation usually in the "50s"... Concordia Publishing House materials
are used, and all teaching and application is focused on the Lord Jesus
Christ, His Cross, and our Salvation!
Prayer Ministry
The Lord has provided several Scripture Readings that encourage us to pray
for others. "Don't worry about anything; instead pray about everything, tell God
your needs and don't forget to thank Him for His answers." (Philippians 4:6)
And again, "The prayer of a righteous man has great power in its effects."
(James 5:16b) To this end, we at Genesis have organized a Prayer Ministry
to enable us to pray for those in need as well as to give thanks for the Lord's
many blessings. All prayer petitions should be initiated by contacting the
Prayer Ministry Facilitator: Peggy Marlow at 830-637-9467 or e-mail her at:
plmarlow@verizon.com. All church members who have provided their e-mail
address are sent the Prayer Requests. If you wish to be added to the list
please contact the church office, 512-793-6800
Altar Guild
Genesis Altar Guild currently has 10 members. Since we all are gone from time
to time, we are blessed by this number. We meet once a month on the first Tuesday
of each month at 9:30 a.m. Our purpose is to assist Pastor in anything he needs
for preparation of Sunday and special services; i.e., Advent and Lenten seasons.
We are responsible for maintaining the sanctuary, providing flowers for the altar
area and the care of all linens, preparing Holy Communion, and any other service
involving the sanctuary. Our officers are elected for a one-year term. The officers
for 2011 are: Pat Williams - President (325-388-2919) Bessie Swindle -
Vice-President (325-379-2631) Barbara Gersch- Secretary(325-247-3345) and
Treasurer Barbara Senzig (325-388-5304).
You may contact any one of the officers or members if you are interested in becoming
a part of the Altar Guild.
Arts & Crafts
Peggy Marlow and Joyce Weaver will be hosting Arts & Crafts
at the church the first & third Monday of each month. Bring your
own supplies. They will break for lunch at Tamale King from 11:30
to 12:30 or you may bring your own sack lunch.
Genesis Travel Group
We currently have a loosely organized group of about 15 families that are
interested in traveling as a group instead of by themselves. Most of the
members have a RV or Travel Trailer but a few get hotels/motels close to
the others. So far, the traveling has consisted of 2-5 day trips but we have
been discussing making 1-2-3 week trips to places farther away. Day trips
are on the agenda too.
Senior Games Fellowship
If you are a "gamer" you want to get with this group!! They meet on the
2nd Wednesday at 12:00 noon (everyone brings their lunch and goodies)
and the 4th Sunday after Church services (brown bag lunches to share or not).
Hand and Foot is the game of choice but the group is open to new games.
Bring your game of choice and join us.
Grief Support Group
This group has disbanded for the time being.
The Grief Support Group meets the second Tuesday each month. This group
is for widows, widowerers, divorcees, and they will also welcome those that
are married and having a hard time with their spouses. Anyone who needs
to have others to hear and share their problems are welcomed. Please call
Jeri at 830-598-8140 for directions to the meeting place.
Genesis Piecemakers
The Genesis Piecemakers began in January of 2005. We make quilts primarily
for Lutheran World Relief, sending them in the spring every year to their warehouse
via an area designated church. We have about 15 to 18 ladies who participate and
we meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month from 9:30 till 3:00. Some ladies bring
sewing machines; some cut squares, backing, linings, etc; and some pin quilts
together to be sewn. We have given quilts to victims of Katrina as well as New Life
Center in New Braunfels. Our main focus is to Lutheran World Relief, and we have
sent over 100 quilts to them for the past two years. We have been blessed with
donations of fabric, thread, etc. It's a wonderful time of fellowship and service, and
is open to anyone in our church, as well as our community. Please come for any hours
that you can, and if you plan to stay all day, bring your lunch!
Skill Buddies / VBS
Skill Buddies is a unique children's ministry opportunity for those people who are
interested in sharing the love of Christ with local kids. Currently we are reaching
out to the Kingsland area only, but hope to expand to neighboring towns in the future.
Skill Buddies uses practical life skills to reach out to those who participate. We have
small stations to teach about things such as gardening, tool use, leather stamping,
gift wrapping, snack making, crafts and, of course, JESUS. Children are free to
explore each station and perform each skill as volunteers explain and share how
God relates to the activity being done. We also include songs and skits performed
by our youth using puppets. There are multiple ways to be involved in this ministry
from behind the scenes work to actively sharing with the children.
